FAQ

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is the process of correcting physical dysfunction to decrease pain and improve mobility, strength, and level of functional ability. One of the best benefits of physical therapy is the one-on-one care you receive. Physical therapy is available at either our Jefferson Memorial Hospital campus or our DeSoto Rehab office in the Jefferson Square shopping mall.

What is cardiopulmonary rehabilitation?

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is designed to help patients with heart and lung problems recover faster and return to a more normal life. Our rehab program combines education, exercise, and counseling — all designed to help you return to your optimal functional level. This program benefits patients who have had a heart attack, undergone coronary bypass surgery, or been diagnosed with asthma or COPD.

Can I receive assistance with a hearing problem?

Yes. Our Audiology staff specializes in the assessment of the nature and degree of hearing loss, hearing conservation measures or protection, and rehabilitation of individuals with hearing impairments. To determine if you have a hearing loss or related condition, our Audiologist can perform screenings and hearing evaluations as well as examinations designed to detect middle ear infections, vertigo (dizziness), or tinnitus (ringing in the ear). Our Audiology services are available for all ages — from newborns to seniors.

Do you have a Registered Dietitian — and how can they help me?

Yes, a Registered Dietitian is an integral part of our rehab team and is available to assist clients. You will be assessed on multiple levels — your individual lifestyle, food habits and preferences, medical history — and our dietitian will help you plan a healthy diet. Nutrition counseling is offered in private sessions designed to help you eat well, eat healthy, and still enjoy delicious meals. If you are dealing with weight control issues, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, or other medical conditions, our dietitian will work with you in developing an individualized meal plan designed to meet your medical, nutritional, and lifestyle needs.
