Jefferson Memorial Hospital

Acute Rehabilitation Center

Jefferson Memorial Hospital opened its 14-bed Acute Rehabilitation Center in October 2007. The hospital developed the unit and will provide patient care in partnership with Rehab Care Inc. The new facility is on the hospital’s fifth floor and is a “Distinct Part” unit, meaning that patients are discharged from the hospital and admitted to the unit.

The Acute Rehabilitation Center will focus primarily on physical rehabilitation for stroke victims, head and spinal cord injuries, and hip fractures. Other diagnoses that may be treated include burn patients, amputations, SCI, BI, and other neurological diseases.

Patients will receive at least three full hours per day of physical and occupational therapy. The center anticipates that about 80 percent of patients treated in the new Acute Rehab Center will be able to return to their homes.

Neurologist Julia Zevallos, MD, is the center’s medical director. The new Acute Rehab Center’s Program Director is Brigid Jensen and the Nursing Supervisor is Christi Reed. For additional information call 636-933-1664.
